The Auckland Women's Refuge is a membership affiliated National
Collective
of Independent Women's Refuges (NCIWR). We are a not for profit
non-
government organisation that relies heavily on volunteer support.
What our Refuge Does and Provides:
- 24 Crisis-line telephone service ph (09) 378 1893
- Refuge telephone service with trained advocates to receive domestic
violence calls Monday to Friday ph (09) 378 7635 between 9am - 3pm
- Confidential safe-house with 24 hour access to accommodation for Domestic
Violence intervention for women and children after a screening process
to a
safe, supportive and non- judgemental environment
- Culturally appropriate services
- Advocacy/support at police, lawyers, court, WINZ, housing and other agency
support services
- Information on legal issues, benefits & emergency funding,
safety
options and housing
- Referrals to sympathetic counsellors, lawyers, doctors and to other
appropriate services
- Education and support groups for women and children about living free
from
Domestic Violence
- Child-care programmes
- Crisis intervention training and educational programs
- On-going support once families leave the refuge house
- Assistance to women in the community who may not choose to come in to
the Refuge but need help. Suggestions on finding alternative
accommodation if families are unable or unwilling to return to their home
- Continued support to women when they leave Refuge either to return
home or to make a fresh start.
- We provide education to the public and statutory agencies and non-statutory
agencies on Refuge and how to respond appropriately to family violence.
- Training on family violence awareness and issues
- Collection and distribution of public donations to support families
